Chapter Zero
After reading the introduction of our new in-class text, the Social Media Marketing Workbook 2016 by Jason McDonald, I can say it goes into way more detail than our previous book. I really like how the workbook offers worksheets and other tools after you register on the website. (hopefully this makes retaining all of the information easier) I also noticed that this workbook gives each social media platform (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, and Yelp & Google) its own chapter. Along with listing the table of contents, the introduction gives a short description of what you'll find while reading and what the workbook hopes to accomplish. (teaching you how to market on social media, not just understand)
A big portion of the introduction is:
Why market on social media?
A big portion of the introduction is:
Why market on social media?
- Social media is big: There are billions of users on Facebook and millions on other platforms; a good majority of the world uses social media.
- Your customers are on social media: Social media is valuable for businesses because all ages use social media and it is a prime place to reach customers who check these platforms daily.
- Social media is free: Brands can go viral from the free marketing used on social media to build and spread the word of their business. Any customer can stay up to date with their favorite brands because of free social media
- Social media can reach not only existing but also new customers: Social media allows brands to be discovered by new customers because the platforms are free and there are many users throughout the world online. Some platforms like Facebook and Twitter allow you to pay to promote posts, which helps new customers discover a brand.
This workbook has already given a huge chunk of new information in the introduction and from the description of what it hopes to accomplish I'm excited to keep reading and learn more.
