Are Cashier-less Stores Better?

I recently read an article that discussed what Amazon is doing with AmazonGo in small convenient stores. These stores are completely cashier and line free. A customer walks up to the store, scans their amazon app, walks through the store to pick what they want to buy and then simply walk out. Their account is charged without them having to do anything except open and scan their app. For some people the thought of no lines and no necessary human interaction sounds absolutely amazing, but for others, taking away the customer service will hurt their shopping experience. I personally think that using this technology for small convenience stores is perfect, especially if i'm trying to grab something to eat in a rush. I'm also a person that loves self checkouts in larger grocery stores, so I would love for this technology to be used in my local Kroger or Walmart. I do see the other side of things and think that both types of people could be satisfied by keeping some sort of customer service involved in the stores, like someone to bag items or answer questions. Amazon only has a handful of stores using AmazonGo currently, but they plan on opening 3,000 locations by 2021 and I'm wondering if this cashier-less and line free method will really catch on and be the future of retail or if customer service will prevail, because so many people look for that experience when shopping at a brick and mortar location. What do you think will happen with this sort of technology or shopping experience in the future?
