5 Tips for YouTube

1. Use keywords
  • optimize your title and description by using keywords in both.
  • use no more than 5 tags with your keywords
  • you'll need to do keyword research; you can use "YouTube suggest" by typing in different keywords to see what people are searching for.
2. Use your competitor's name or product's name as keywords
  • this is called a branded keyword
  • doing this will draw in customer's from your competitors that are searching for videos about their products
3. "How To" videos are the most searched for video on YouTube
  • Use this to your channel's advantage and bring in traffic by creating "how to" videos that your subscriber's or potential subscribers would be interested in.
    • Example: Beauty blogs could post "how to" videos on applying different products, how to contour, how to blend properly or how to style your hair (different types of braids, etc.)
  • YouTube is the number two search engine after Google and many people learn how to use products better by seeing it done, so "how to" videos will bring in more traffic to your channel.
4. Interactivity
  • the more people interact (thumbs up/comment/share/embed) your video the higher its search position will be.
  • how to increase interactivity?
    • ask viewers to subscribe to your channel, thumbs up and comment any thoughts or questions in the comment section below the video
    • use annotations on top of the video to link videos or other things online.
    • link your YouTube channel on all your other social media to create more traffic on your channel
5. Use emotion to your advantage
All tips came from this workbook
  • Utility, fear, anger, outrage, humor, sentimentality are all emotions
    • utility is the weakest; if used, the video is shared for its usefulness
    • humor and sentimental videos are more likely to go viral
  • The best emotion for many businesses to use is humor; using this emotion should have no negative side effects on the business's brand and is more likely to be shared.
  • Nonprofit organization's often use sentimental videos to tug at viewer's emotions urging them to share the video
  • emotion can fuel viewers to share your videos, which creates more traffic on your channel, more potential subscribers and more interactivity
